Scientific MOOCs follower. Author of Airpocalypse, a techno-medical thriller (Out Summer 2017)

Welcome to the digital era of biology (and to this modest blog I started in early 2005).

To cure many diseases, like cancer or cystic fibrosis, we will need to target genes (mutations, for ex.), not organs! I am convinced that the future of replacement medicine (organ transplant) is genomics (the science of the human genome). In 10 years we will be replacing (modifying) genes; not organs!

Anticipating the $100 genome era and the P4™ medicine revolution. P4 Medicine (Predictive, Personalized, Preventive, & Participatory): Catalyzing a Revolution from Reactive to Proactive Medicine.

I am an early adopter of scientific MOOCs. I've earned myself four MIT digital diplomas: 7.00x, 7.28x1, 7.28.x2 and 7QBWx. Instructor of 7.00x: Eric Lander PhD.

Upcoming books: Airpocalypse, a medical thriller (action taking place in Beijing) 2017; Jesus CRISPR Superstar, a sci-fi -- French title: La Passion du CRISPR (2018).

I love Genomics. Would you rather donate your data, or... your vital organs? Imagine all the people sharing their data...

Get Ready For The Next-Gen Transplant... The Heart, Sorry, I Mean: The Head Transplant!

"IRACEBETH, THE RED QUEEN (Helena Bonham Carter), is the tyrannical monarch of Underland. With her oversized head, fiery temper and propensity to scream for people’s heads to be chopped off, she rules her subjects through fear. “She’s got emotional problems,” says Bonham Carter. “It takes nothing, practically, for her to lose her temper. Her tantrums are that of a two-year-old.” Her younger sibling, the White Queen, has designs on the throne and crown that Iracebeth once stole from her." (source)
Heart transplants will soon be a thing of the past: mechanical circulatory support as destination therapy (and no longer as "bridge to transplant"), 3D organ bioprinting, artificial hearts (in China and in Europe with Carmat)... The next thing is the... head transplant!!

Great stuff for a scenarist, so, thank you for that one: the "head transplant"!! By the way, you can read more about what a head transplant is (should be? will be? might be?) here...

They are trying to industrialize organ donation (you know, that big-bucks-big-pharma business model thing)... as a result the system is in crisis... concerns and quandaries about "brain death" and "donation under cardiac death" ("is brain death true death?" etc.), worldwide organ trafficking (forced transplants in China) and human biomarket ("Organ Gangs Force Poor to Sell Kidneys for Desperate Israelis" etc.). I wonder if a brighter prospect (other than a sequel to Burton's "Frankenweenie") awaits us with a head transplant...
